an update on 'todd's hole'.

Saturday night we had three reasons to celebrate. #1. It was Tiffany's (Brandon's wife) birthday a whopping 22 yrs old. #2. Aunt Debbie & Uncle Peter were in town on their way to Whitefish for the summer and...#3 We finally finished our spring project, a.k.a. Todd's hole. It took forever to finish!! The actual 'hole' itself only took like 10 days for Todd to dig, but the problem was he dug it in like the ugliest area of our yard. It was strategically placed by the tree house which was strategically placed to be supported by this huge tree that had fallen over a few years previous and the area had become a sort of dumping ground for dead wood and weeds. - UGLY. The problem was that when we got the trampoline in,(finally) - It of course drew the kiddies to it and consequently the adults tended to 'mingle' out there too. We have a beautiful, huge yard and I was very opposed to the fact that the 'gathering place' was an ugly dumping ground so we put on our landscaper/gardener hats and designed/created an area we won't be so embarrassed if people see!! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out...

The 'play' area is a big hit with the kids! They love to jump off the tree onto the tramp. No one has been brave enough to jump off the tree house onto the tramp but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I don't think my nerves can handle it!

My project has been weeding out and establishing beds to plant different kinds of ground cover. 9 different kinds to be exact - the plan is to see which takes the best and spread it into other 'natural areas in the yard. I also built a couple of rugged stone walkways with stone Todd collected and I'm trying to grow moss and thyme in between the stones. I know some people really don't care about this kind of stuff, (a few years ago I included myself in this category!), but if you do care, my little plants sure could use your prayers!!

Here's Todd enjoying the area almost as much as the kids - jumping off the tree which is the reason we did this whole thing in the first place!

9 of you like what you're seeing!:

wow!! Awesome back yard!!! I love how the tree is there for the kids to jump from. My Boys would be all over that. At our hous e they try to jump off the shed on to the tramp and one time Ty tried jumping from the tramp to the Shed!!-Ya he wasn't very successful. Giant bruises and scraps. I think he though he was Spiderman or something!!
Way to go on the great back yard! It looks like you'll be haveing lots of gatherings now.

Larita - you need to stop in next time y'all are on your way through! Everyone is welcome at The Housley House! I fear this little trampoline set up is an accident waiting to happen - Probably not as dangerous as hot gravy though!

Jenn, that is amazing...your yard is a kid's dream! I always sort of plan that one of my kids will break their arm on the tramp, just so I'm not too shocked when it really happens!

Jen...it looks great! I have some creeping thyme in my yard, and it grows like crazy and it smells good. I also have this stuff called snow in the summer which is not quite a low ground cover, it is about 4 inches tall but it is a crazy creeper too. (I myself have gotten way into gardening...weird)
Anyhow I love that you put a tramp by a tree on purpose, way to be a fun mom.

Great yard - I wish my trampoline was in a hole - does Todd want to dig another one? Barnwell girl reunion? That would be so fun!

Jen-
I'm so sorry, the problem with the link and name is fixed. My only excuse is that I didn't finish the blog until 2am, so that's probably why there are mistakes. Thanks for letting me know! And thanks for all the fun comments! Loved 'Em!
